The throat swabbing programme targets tamariki aged between four and fourteen years. The intention is to find tamariki who have Strep A throat infections and offer treatment with antibiotics in order to reduce the risk of rheumatic heart disease. We also swab the throats of all whānau members if tamariki have had Strep A throat infections multiple times or where siblings have had positive throat swab results. Kaiawhina attend the following schools three times per week and are available to swab any child who has a sore throat:
